Cold Chisel

Since forming in Adelaide in 1973 and blasting onto the national scene in the late 70s, Cold Chisel has created a uniquely Australian fusion of rockabilly, roughhouse soul, and blues. Between 1978 and 1983 the original line-up of Don Walker, Jim Barnes, Ian Moss (guitar/vocals), Phil Small (bass) and Steve Prestwich (drums) recorded five studio albums that became Australian classics. 1977’s self-titled debut and 1978’s Breakfast At Sweethearts initially received little support from mainstream media but eventually went gold based on nonstop touring. 1980’s East was their huge commercial breakthrough and 1982’s Circus Animals finally saw them top the charts. However by the time Twentieth Century was released in 1984 the band had already flamed out, making their unforgettable Last Stand in arenas around the country. In 1998 Cold Chisel reformed briefly for a chart topping album and tour called The Last Wave Of Summer. An ‘unplugged’ style run of dates called Ringside followed five years later, then in 2011 the group was working on a new studio album that became No Plans when Steve Prestwich sadly died from complications during surgery for a brain tumour. Eventually Charley Drayton agreed to step in to help complete what Steve began and he's played drums with the band ever since, including on the record breaking Light The Nitro Tour and 2015’s platinum certified The Perfect Crime.

The band is currently putting the finishing touches to some more new music they recorded earlier this year with Charley and they plan to release at least some of it before the Blood Moon Tour. Further announcements will be made about that in the weeks or months ahead.

Over the course of their career Cold Chisel has sold almost 7 million albums across vinyl, cassette, CD, downloads and streaming. They’ve been inducted to the ARIA Hall Of Fame and received the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music. However their greatest achievements are their songs. It’s a body of work that has defined and echoed who we are. For over 40 years Cold Chisel has defied the odds, ignored the trends, and blazed their own trail. The band has endeared themselves to all sorts of Australians because their uncompromising attitude articulates our hopes, fears, alienation and humour, and because they are simply one of the most ferocious live rock'n'roll outfits on earth.

Birds of Tokyo

Formed in Perth back in 2004, Birds of Tokyo have grown from independent roots to become one of Australia’s most popular contemporary rock bands. Songs like “Plans”, “Lanterns”, “This Fire”, “Anchor” and “I’d Go With You Anywhere” have all been top 10 airplay hits and have lead to appearances at every major festival in this country including Falls, Splendour In The Grass and Groovin’ The Moo, as well as headlining slots at the AFL Grand Final and NRL’s flagship State of Origin game.

Over the years the band has had eleven separate songs make Triple J’s “Hottest 100” including breakthrough hit “Plans” which ranked #4 on the 2010 countdown. “Plans” was taken from Birds of Tokyo's self-titled third studio album, which went double platinum and spent over eight months in the ARIA top 20. The eponymous release received the ARIA Award for Best Rock Album.

Subsequent records have helped the band carve a singular career for more than a decade, including 2012’s March Fires, which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart and produced triple-platinum radio hit “Lanterns”, gold-certified EP Anchor (2015) and 2016’s top #3-peaking album BRACE.

More than seventy Birds of Tokyo songs have featured on Triple J, making them one of the station’s three most played artists of this millennium. The band are also the only artist in history to win “Rock Work Of The Year” on five separate occasions at the prestigious APRA Awards.

Now in 2018, new single “Unbreakable” is the first new music from Birds of Tokyo in over two years and sets up a big summer of touring for the acclaimed group, including a performance at the official Closing Ceremony of the Invictus Games in Sydney. More new tracks will be dropped over coming months as the band builds toward a new album which will expand on many of the lyrical threads they are unveiling for the first time with “Unbreakable”.


It was almost 23 years ago that Jebediah first shambled on stage in their shorts, sneakers, blue hair, dimples, grins and smirks and started bouncing off the walls with their roaring riffs and soaring pop hooks, tearing the lid off the Big Day Out and the Hottest 100 overnight.

It's impossible for an Australian of a certain vintage to imagine those late '90s summers without those delirious early Jebs singles — ‘Jerks of Attention’, ‘Leaving Home’, ‘Teflon’, ‘Harpoon’, ‘Animal’ — blasting out of every car radio and festival PA from Summersault to the Falls to Homebake.

23 years, six albums and piles of awards and acclaim later, the Jebs continue to captivate their devout fan base with their infectious energy and enthusiasm. There is no hiding the joy the band get from playing together and be it at packed pub or on a festival stage, it’s impossible to avoid their immersive charm.


Since their inception in 1997, Gyroscope have become an undeniable mainstay within the Australian music scene, with a fanbase that spans across the young and old. They’ve continually released critically-praised records, including their third studio album ‘Breed Obsession’ that debuted at no.1 on the ARIA charts. By August in the year of release, the album was certified gold by ARIA. Multiple tracks have also featured in the ARIA charts and triple j’s esteemed Hottest 100.

Over their career, the group have also performed at festivals Big Day Out, Groovin’ The Moo and toured with the likes of Jimmy Eat World, Blink-182, Brand New, Fall Out Boy and Dashboard Confessional.

For something to succeed you don’t need a formula – you need a solid foundation on which everything can be built. And few in music have set a foundation as strong as Gyroscope.

“The foundation is what we hold true to, whether it be the foundation of being around for a while or it be that we’ve done so much touring and travelling and seen so many things and met so many people,” singer-guitarist Dan Sanders says. “The band has become a backbone in each member. Each of us, our lives are almost all made up of playing in this band. It’s the foundation, the backbone, and we realise we’ve got to this point through this. And these opportunities don’t come around every day.”

It is from the mere fact that the band formed when they were still at school, to the size of their enormous fan base built on more than a decade of releases and relentless touring, that the Perth rock quartet has shown that while nothing in music can be foretold, the right foundation makes anything possible.

Southern River Band

Within the first year of formation, The Southern River Band has literally gone from playing to a handful of people and the bar staff at The Thornlie Tavern in Perth’s south east corner to becoming one of Australia’s most popular and exciting new acts. Rock and roll with a dash of Boogie Woogie and a sprinkle of Country, or as one guy at the bar once told us, “Just sounds like a goddamn Saturday night”.

The band’s musicianship, stage presence and exceptional live performance quickly earned them the title ‘The band I told you about…’ and were nominated for WAM’s “Most Popular Live Act” award of 2016 & 2017.

Influenced by the purest rock and roll bands of the 70’s and 80’s, from timeless melodies written by Bob Seger and Glenn Frey to heavier riffs in Van Halen and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band’s plethora of songs covers various genres, all delivered in the explosive SRB style.

SRB has received a firm nod from members of Status Quo, The Angels, Pond, You Am I, The Stems, Cosmic Psychos, Karnivool and Ian Moss.

Carla Geneve

Witnessing Carla Geneve in performance is akin to a sermon of fire and brimstone: it is an absolute sensory commandment of flesh and blood attention. The naked vulnerability underpinning the immediacy of her songs is emboldened by the raw and unbridled energy of her live shows that have captured the imagination of audiences across Australia. “Music is a very pure form of connection between people,” Geneve muses. “The best feeling is when I’m playing and the energy bypasses my brain… it’s like you’re just being, and the audience is right there with you.”
Hailing from the small coastal town of Albany, some 400 kilometres south of Western Australia’s capital city of Perth, Geneve cut her teeth playing solo shows in and around regional centres as a 16-year old. These formative experiences proved invaluable, and after relocating to Perth, by the end of 2017 Carla had been nominated for multiple Western Australian Music Awards, including Most Popular New Act, and Best Regional Act (which she won).

Her first official single, ‘Greg’s Discount Chemist’ (March 2018), bristled with an open-hearted clarity and ragged playfulness that immediately resonated with audiences. Garnering over 400,000 streams on Spotify, the single’s success led to Australia’s leading national radio station Triple J crowning Geneve as their Unearthed Feature Artist of the Week. She subsequently embarked on her first national tour, playing to packed houses in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

After earning rave reviews for an electrifying showcase at the annual BIGSOUND conference in Brisbane, key support slots followed for the likes of Gareth Liddiard
(The Drones/Tropical Fuck Storm), Cat Power & Kurt Vile as well as performances at festivals such as Falls Festival & Laneway Festival. Geneve then announced her signing to Remote Control/Dot-Dash Recordings in February 2019, subsequently releasing a new single, ‘2001’. This was placed into high rotation on Triple J, and also featured on Matt Wilkinson’s Beat 1 show on Apple Radio. A rapturously received national tour followed, resulting in ‘2001’ claiming the #1 spot on the AMRAP Australian Community Radio Charts.

Upon returning to Perth, Carla put the finishing touches on her first, eponymous EP at RADA Studios. Borne of smouldering passion and framed by lacerations of heartbreak, the self-titled EP places her direct and compelling lyricism front and centre without sacrificing the dynamism so central to her live performances. “I wanted the EP to reflect live shows over the past year or so that we’ve been playing. I’d say live performance is where I am most comfortable. I’ve always liked the vulnerability in imperfection. Hopefully that comes out in these songs.”

The arresting new single ‘Yesterday’s Clothes’ reflects a “realisation that you’re falling out of love with someone, and then feeling guilty about it, even though that’s the sort of thing that you can’t avoid”. The single will be released on May 9 prior to the release of the self-titled EP on Friday June 7 via Remote Control Records/Dot Dash Recordings. Geneve will then embark on her first North American tour in support of San Cisco, playing shows in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Toronto, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City.
